Can People See If You Save Their TikTok Video?
Updated 2026-09-10
Short answer: no — TikTok does not tell a creator when you save or download their video. Saving a TikTok is completely private. The person who posted it cannot see your name, your account, or any notification that a download happened. Below is exactly what is and isn't visible.

What the creator CAN see
Creators can see public, aggregated numbers on their own video: the total view count, total likes, total shares and the total number of times the video was saved. But these are just counts — TikTok never reveals who viewed, liked or saved the video. Your identity is never attached to a save.
What the creator CANNOT see
The creator cannot see your username, cannot see that you specifically saved or downloaded the clip, and gets no notification at all when a download happens. This is true whether you use TikTok's built-in save button or an external downloader.
Does using a downloader change anything?
No. When you paste a link into an online downloader, the request never touches the creator's account or notifications — the tool simply fetches the publicly available video file. The creator has no way to know a third-party tool was used.
How to save a TikTok privately (and without a watermark)
If you want a clean copy with no TikTok watermark, paste the video link into our free TikTok downloader. It saves the video in HD with no watermark, and you can also grab just the sound as an MP3 — all completely private.
Frequently asked questions
Does TikTok notify the creator when you save their video?
No. TikTok never notifies a creator when someone saves or downloads their video, and never reveals who did it.
Can someone see if you download their TikTok with a third-party tool?
No. External downloaders fetch the public video file without touching the creator's account, so there is no notification.
Can the creator see the number of saves?
Yes, they can see the total save count on their own video, but not the identity of anyone who saved it.
Is it safe to download TikTok videos?
Downloading a public video for personal use is generally fine. Always respect the creator's rights and don't re-upload content as your own.
