How to save a TikTok video to your gallery
The fastest way uses TikTok's built-in share menu. It works almost the same on iPhone and Android:
- Open the video you want inside the TikTok app.
- Tap the Share arrow (the curved arrow on the right side).
- Tap Save video in the row of options.
- Wait for the progress ring to finish — the clip is now in your phone's Photos (iPhone) or Gallery / Google Photos (Android).
One catch: every video saved this way carries a small TikTok watermark with the creator's username that bounces around the frame. If you want a clean copy, jump to the watermark-free method below.
Where are my saved TikTok videos?
This trips a lot of people up, because TikTok has two very different "saves":
- Save video (from Share) → goes to your phone's normal gallery, next to your other photos and videos. On iPhone check Photos → Recents; on Android check Gallery or the Downloads / TikTok album.
- Add to Favorites (the bookmark icon) → stays inside TikTok under Profile → Favorites → Videos. These never touch your gallery and can't be watched offline.
So if you "saved" a video but can't find it in your camera roll, you probably bookmarked it instead of downloading it.
Why won't TikTok let me save a video?
If the Save video option is greyed out, missing, or says downloads are turned off, it's almost always one of these reasons:
- The creator disabled downloads for that specific video.
- The account is private and you're not an approved follower.
- The video uses a sound or effect the creator restricted.
- You're in a region or app version where saving is limited.
When TikTok's own button refuses, you still have an option as long as the video is public: paste its link into a downloader (next section).
How to turn off "save video" on your own TikToks
Want to stop other people saving your videos? Open the video, tap the ••• (more) menu, choose Privacy settings and toggle Video downloads off. You can also set it account-wide in Settings and privacy → Privacy → Downloads.
How to save a TikTok without the watermark
The in-app save always stamps the TikTok logo and username on your clip. To get a clean MP4, use our free TikTok video downloader instead:
- In TikTok tap Share → Copy link.
- Open the TikTok downloader, paste the link and press Download.
- Pick your quality — the saved MP4 has no watermark and drops straight into your gallery. On iPhone tap Save to Photos; on Android it lands in Downloads / Gallery.
You can also grab just the sound as an MP3 from the same page — handy if you only want the audio for a ringtone or another edit.
Quick tips
- Saving is private — the creator is never notified.
- Only download public videos, and use them for personal, offline viewing.
- The downloader runs in any mobile browser, so there's no app to install.
